National Tour Returns to the Bluewater Casino in Parker, Arizona

EASTPOINTE, MI - The American Power Boat Association (APBA) is excited to announce the return of the U.S. National Tour for Watercross Racing. The 2010 HYDRO-TURF APBA Watercross National Tour, Presented by Yamaha with Supporting Tour sponsor Sea-Doo, features a six-event, eleven-round series that will determine the U.S. National Tour Champions in eleven Pro-Am and Expert racing classes including Women’s classes. The 2010 series will consist of five double rounds events spread throughout the United States, plus the HYDRO-TURF APBA Watercross Nationals in Nashville, Tennessee, which will counted as a double points round, as the final stop.

The 2010 HYDRO-TURF APBA Watercross National Tour will kick off the season with the first two rounds of competition at the beautiful Bluewater Resort & Casino in Parker, Arizona on May 1 and 2, 2010. This is the only National closed course race to take place on the West Coast in 2010. The Bluewater Resort and Casino, which is the host and the Title sponsor for the Parker event, will see some of the best closed course racers and teams from around the United States converge to begin the chase for the coveted 2010 APBA Watercross National Tour Championships. The challenging rough waters of the Colorado River can give even the most seasoned veteran a run for his or her money.

The action both on and off the water is going to be intense with all riders vying for victory and their share of prize money. In addition to event prize money, Supporting sponsor Sea-Doo has posted an impressive contingency program for the racers. The Bluewater event is great opportunity for the fans to get up close and personal with all the racers. The IJSBA is proud to announce the 4th Annual Parade of Nations - Once again Lake Havasu City in Arizona will be honoring all race participants for the 29th IJSBA Quakysense World Finals.

Everyone is invited to attend to honor and represent the flag from their respective country. The event will be held Thursday, October 7th 7:30 PM at the London Bridge Resort and Convention Center. This is free to everyone attending the IJSBA World Finals and there will be an open cash bar for refreshments if desired.

This year I would like to invite participants and friends to bring something special from their country and gift it to an individual from another nation. This item could be a sticker, t-shirt, hat or even a small nation flag.

How to Practice National Flag Etiquette

The date 2009 IJSBA Parade of Nations is coming upon us quickly. Here is some information that may help you understand the flag ettiquette of your country and others.

Have you ever wondered how national flags are displayed correctly? This article provides a general overview of flag etiquette. It is important to note that the policies, traditions, customs, rules and laws of your country or those of other countries pertaining to flag etiquette may differ from those provided in this article.

Fly the flag from sunrise to sunset on a clear day. National flags should not be flown in bad weather (e.g. during thunderstorms or hailstorms)unless it is an all-weather flag. If a national flag is flown at night it should be brightly illuminated

Hoist (raise) the flag in a brisk fashion and lower it in a dignified, ceremonious way.

Flags flown at half-mast should be hoisted to full mast then lowered slowly and ceremoniously to half-mast.

Never let a national flag touch the ground, water or the floor.

Display a national flag in a position superior to all other flags (such as state or provincial flags) except when flags of other countries are displayed (such as at the United Nations or during the Olympic Games).

Flags of the World When flags of multiple countries are flown in the same place, they must all be displayed as equals. They should each be flown on individual flagpoles each of the same size. All of the flags must be the same size and no flag can be bigger or smaller than another flag. National flags of multiple countries should be arranged in alphabetical order.

When two flags are displayed (in a line); the national flag should appear on the left side when viewed by an observer.

When three flags are displayed in a line the national flag should be in the middle (i.e. the second flag).

When four flags are displayed in a line, the national flag should be the first flag on the left when viewed by an observer.

When five or more flags are displayed in a line, two national flags should appear at both ends of the line (e.g. in a line of five flags, the national flag should appear as the first flag and the fifth flag).

When a flag is no longer in good condition (e.g. if it is torn, ripped or badly soiled) it should not be raised or displayed. It should be disposed of in a dignified way (such as a private burning. See this article for an example of the correct procedure).

Always respect the customs and traditions of different countries regarding their national flags. For example, Saudi Arabia, Sri Lanka and Pakistan have all clearly prohibited their national flags from being displayed vertically (e.g. when hung from a wire or mounted to a wall). Never display the national flags of those countries in a vertical position.

This is a general guide only. Policies, rules, laws, traditions and customs of your country or other countries may differ from the information contained in this article. If in doubt, always consult your government or another official authority about the appropriate display of your country's national flag.

Quakysense and IJSBA sign three year World Finals Title Sponsor Agreement

The IJSBA is extremely pleased to announce that we have reached and signed a three year contract with quakysense which secures them as the title sponsor for the IJSBA World Finals in years 2009, 2010, and 2011. This arrangement will have quakysense at the top of the marquee through the IJSBA’s 30th anniversary in 2011. quakysense has been the title sponsor of the World Finals since 2006 and has quickly become the world’s most popular PWC wetsuit.

This agreement follows two years of increased growth for the IJSBA. IJSBA participation throughout the world has increased significantly since 2007 and 2009 has set new records in some areas. The World Finals has seen a steady rise in spectator attendance and this contract allows the IJSBA to spend more time focusing on event development in a way that promotes the sport, quakysense, and the rest of the PWC industry. The following are the dates set by the IJSBA/quakysense contract:

28th Annual World Finals: October 10 - October 18, 2009
29th Annual World Finals: October 3 – October 11, 2010 30th Annual World Finals: October 2 – October 10, 2011

While the dates set for the 2010 and 2011 events are tentative, they follow the IJSBA’s now stated policy of the World Finals ending the Sunday before Columbus Day (a US Federal Holiday) to assist the travel plans of attendees who want to stay through the Pro Sunday and attend the awards ceremony. Columbus day is the second Monday of October and the event will generally occur prior to this date except in cases where this policy would cause the event to begin in September.

The IJSBA is grateful to quakysense, The City of Lake Havasu, Crazyhorse Campgrounds, Kawasaki, Yamaha, Sea-Doo, Honda, Hydrospace for their continued support in making the World Finals the biggest and best personal watercraft related event on the planet. With hundreds of competitors hailing from more than 30 countries, the World Finals is one of the world’s largest single venue multinational events.

The IJSBA will begin circulating information about the event and will open registration on August 14, 2009. CVB OKs event funding for ’09-10 IJSBA, Poker Run, Desert Storm given $20,000 each

Fireworks, personal watercraft and giant powerboats received a hearty show of support from local tourism officials.The Lake Havasu City Convention and Visitors Bureau board of directors voted unanimously Wednesday to allocate $128,000 to 20 different events planned to take place in the community over the next year.

The largest amount — $20,000 — was approved for each of the three events: the IJSBA World Finals in October, The Western Pyrotechnics Association’s Winterblast convention in February and Lake Racer’s Desert Storm Poker Run in April.

The IJSBA and WPA events both received the total amount requested. Lake Racer had requested $30,000 in event funding from the CVB.

“This is the result of the process. Some tough questions were asked,” said CVB board chairman Dennis Schilling. “What we’re seeing is that we’re honing in on the events that will bring in the most visitors.”

Chip Shilosky, who chaired the committee that reviewed the applications, said committee members evaluated the requests based on three criteria: Does the event promote tourism to Lake Havasu City, is there sustainability, and what is the profit and loss.

Based on those criteria, some events were shut out for funding, including the Leaping Lizards’ lighting of Cupcake Mountain, the Chamber of Commerce’s Winterfest and the Main Street Association’s Mardi Gras Parade.

It also resulted in almost every funded event receiving less than requested. Besides the IJSBA and WPA, only the Western Outdoor News received their full request of $2,500 for the annual Striper Derby in May.A number of new events received funding this year, including $1,000 for the National Bass West Havasu Classic in September; $3,000 for the Havasu Freedom Rally motorcycle event in November; $6,000 for Events All Around’s 2nd Annual Rockabilly Reunion at Windsor Beach in February; and $2,000 for Paramax’s XDL Sportbike Championship at Havasu Speedway in April.

Both the XDL Sportbike Championship and Rockabilly concert took place last year but were not funded by the CVB.Another new event receiving funding is the HavaBBQ event locally sponsored by the Lions Club.

Lesley Reed, Events & Promotions Manager for the CVB, explained the event is actually one of many throughout the country.“It’s based out of the Kansas City Barbeque Society and there are 25 events throughout the region and the nation,” Reed said. “We’ll be the 26th event, opening the event for the circuit in 2010.”Reed said participants and tasters would come primarily from the West Coast and the Midwest.

The event will be held at Windsor Beach 4 at Lake Havasu State Park in February and the CVB approved $7,500 in funding.The board also approved holding $24,000 in a contingency fund, to be used if a promoter brings forward a new event during the fiscal year.

However, the funding for those new events, on an emergency basis, is limited to 10 percent of the contingency fund balance.Two members of the board recused themselves from voting on three funding requests because their businesses were involved with the events. Cal Sheehy declared a conflict because of the London Bridge Resort’s involvement with December’s Festival of Lights ($7,500) and Winterfest. Tom Felke declared a conflict because of the Shugrue’s Restaurants involvement with April’s Havasu Half Marathon ($2,500).

The start of the 2009 IJSBA Quakysense World Finals is in 107 days, and on October 15th all race participants will be attending the 3rd annual IJSBA Parade of Nations showing their love for country and man.

These sportsmen and women from around the world will come together under one starry sky, with the London Bridge in Lake Havasu City, Arizona as its backdrop. This is will be the end of an intense racing season. Competitors will bring to the line grit, sweat, stamina and determination. Each one welcoming the task that makes them go beyond themselves. Believing and dreaming that they will be the next World Champion.

Please put a flag sticker representing your country on the hood of your race boat, it's time to represent and fly the colors of your nation.

Peaking, in Seconds and Feet

Just got a call. A visceral scream was the first thing I heard. Someone unloading into their phone and I was the recipient. Confusion, alarm, concern, all the keywords one goes through when you know something bad has happened to the person on the phone with you, flashed my psyche as dread fell upon me.

I then realized that Shawn Alladio was the gutteral scream. She was in her car, naked for the most part, burned, bruised, in shock. We established a rapport and I began to talk her down.
It is 12:15 AM. I am now wired and beyond alert. Shawn had rung off as she reached her home in OC. I knew that she had just done a long day at sea with the military in an appreciation day that her company, K38 Rescue had just put on.

In her weary drive home she had rolled up on a flame wall on the 5 Fwy. She said that she had driven through it and that it looked like Armageddon. Pulling up to a burning car she got out and saw movement in the flames. Grabbing a prybar she broke the window and grabbed at the squirming flame ball that was a man. She said his hands had looked like candles as they burned.
There were bystanders and she screamed for help, but as sometimes happens no one moved and as she managed to gain control of the flaming man she began to pull him out and his foot caught in the debris. Screaming at the bystanders, they finally broke from shock and jumped the two. As they dragged the guy away, the car exploded.

“I smell David, I smell like fire and burning flesh, I think I fractured my arm, I am almost home”
Shawn thought that the car had punctured it’s tank in a collision with the guard rail, setting off the tempest. I am taking a sip of vodka right now. It burns and rasps my throat. I am worried about my friend. Emotionally peaking myself, because I love her and can do nothing. But knowing Shawn, I understand that she will be all right. Eventually. Someone lives tonight, albeit in agony, because Shawn was where she was supposed to be. It is her lot, this sort of thing. Lucky guy.
Shawn always lectures us that rescue (and life) is all about seconds and feet. You have seconds in which to assess and feet in which to react. Tonight once again she illustrated her point. Seconds and feet.

On first glance you would think it is a bunch of speed freaks and water gearheads going whack. You would be wrong. It was simply Shawn building esprit de corp, skill and teamwork with her tribe. You and I should be so lucky, that if we ever need a hero, any of them showed up. The thing with Shawn is, she always comes. Always faithful. The list of things that she has accomplished is so vast, and she is really so guarded about it, that I smile when I think about how in trouble I probably am, for writing this blog this morning.

What is a hero? Someone prepared to give all, with skills available that increase the odds of their success and you seeing your loved ones once again. I love the way the dictionary describes the term below. Funny really and incorrect in this case.

I rarely do addendums. Here is Shawn’s letter to our team this morning. It says more, back to front than I could, right down to the signature at the page end. And after, some friends and fellow trainees, all of them more accomplished than you would ever imagine. Shawn enhanced their already impressive skill set in her courses.

I finally got to sleep early this am, and I’m resting. I couldn’t get this man’s image out of my moments, I really don’t have any injuries to speak of. I think I was flushing a long exhausting day, lots of emotional connectors from 2 days of hard work, little rest, then this man’s situation, just topped me. I don’t have any pain at all, but last night was intense, I think most of it may have been emotional or ‘psyche’ driven. That’s an honest statement. I’m a bit banged up but cool. Will rest today and thanks for your thoughts. I did call Mark, Pirate, and Mike, and David, was trying to text to Ryan but I couldn’t make my fingers work. LOL I gave up on the texting and calls, I couldn’t get connections. It’s behind me now, but this man, it is forever. I am going to get dressed and go to Starbucks of course and get a double shot of something, then go over to the hospital to see if he is ok. I hope he has not lost his sight, that seems to be in my thoughts a lot. I will never forget, and we all should appreciate today with profound interest and joy. That is the message in this man’s situation, no crying…get out and about and change the world today, for surely you know not what comes next.

Shawn Alladio was awarded the National Water Safety Congress (NWSC) Award of Merit for her work in promoting and advancing water recreation safety. The NWSC makes this annual award to individuals and organizations that have made outstanding contributions to water safety during the previous year.

In announcing Ms. Alladio’s award, NWSC Regional Vice President Ed Huntsman said ” This award recognizes your continuing efforts to train first responders of boating and water related accidents involving recreational boaters and other users of the nation’s waterways.” The NWSC award notification goes on to recognize Alladio’s devotion to safety in developing and sharing the evolving emergency rescue techniques and training practices that use personal watercraft.

For the past several years Alladio’s K38 Rescue organization has used Kawasaki JET SKI® watercraft as part of a sponsorship arrangement with Kawasaki Motors Corp., U.S.A. With these JET SKI watercraft K38 has conducted dozens of hands-on safety training programs for a variety of public safety agencies. She has also led a number of boating safety seminars for the general boating public and organized a national professional association for boating rescue and enforcement personnel called H2O Responders, now a part of the American Watercraft Association.

In 2009, K38 Water Safety celebrates 20 years of service to recreational, occupational and event management water safety and education. It's Sunday at the beach.........

The smell of spring and fuel is in the air. With the first APBA National Tour stop just weeks away, competitors gather at Body Beach, in Lake Havasu City, to hone their skills, test their ski’s and push one another to the limit.

Any day of the week it is not unusual to see Chris and Rachel MacClugage, Brandon McMillan, Mark Queen and Chris Hagest training at the beach after a short Arizona winter. Cars and trucks line up along the shoreline with everyone jockeying for the prime spot to launch their skis. Sun up to sun down the riders, twist and turn their bodies, carving the water, with early hopes of becoming the next world champion.

It is never a dull moment at the beach, you never know who or what you will see. Someone will turn their head and look at a day-glow painted Kawasaki 550 SX, thinking “this is how it all started”. Then they hear the deep throaty rumblings of the one of a kind, custom ski, built by River Rat Racing. A 215hp, supercharged, RXP motor crammed into the cramped confines of a 2008 Kawasaki hull. Then he thinks to himself, “Look how far we have come”.

It doesn’t matter whether you are a Pro, Novice, Amateur racer, or just someone who seeks the thrill of racing around buoys, someone is always there to lend a helping hand to get your ski on the trailer, or help you with modifications to your watercraft. It’s a camaraderie that is felt year around in this quaint little spot that racers and recreational riders like to call home.

AWA Update Concerning United States Ethanol Levels in Fuel

Dear AWA Member:

Strong pro-ethanol advocates are pushing the Obama Administration and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to increase ethanol levels in gasoline to 15% (E15). As you may have read in Ride, PWC Magazine, ethanol at the currently allowed 10% (E10) level has been shown to cause significant problems for some marine engines and boat fuel systems. Higher levels of ethanol have not been tested in marine engine systems, and in fact may void marine engine warranties.

AWA is part of a broad coalition of over 50 consumer, industry, and environmental organizations working to ensure that science is part of the federal decision. Specifically, we are asking that EPA deny the waiver requested by ethanol producers to increase the allowable ethanol level to 15% until unbiased testing demonstrates that higher blends would pose no threats to gasoline engines, public health, the environment, and consumers.

AWA Safety Day on May 16th at Lake Anna, Virginia.

The American Watercraft Association invites you to a Free AWA Safety Day on May 16th at Lake Anna, Virginia. This member event is designed to increase your boat handling skills, and boating safety awareness.

The course is made up of a state approved boating course in the morning, followed by a free lunch, and then hands on work with your boat, and a written test for your state safety card. The “hands on” portion is taught by Shawn Alladio of K-38 Rescue, the world leader in personal watercraft safety and training.

We keep the course of instruction simple and easy to follow and using your PWC. Tasks include:

-Finding the correct balance of your PWC, and how it works with the throttle.
-How to correctly board your craft in the event of becoming separated from it.
-The “Bottle Drill” will help build your balance and boat control.
-Docking a PWC on an E-Z-Dock and conventional dock.

Plus demonstrations on the correct procedures for overturned craft and much more.
This common sense course is FREE. It’s just another way the AWA makes positive contributions to the boating community. IJSBA Announces New PWC Social Networking and Information Site for Members, Competitors, and Associates

The IJSBA is very pleased to announce an all new service available on the IJSBA website. This summer, IJSBA will activate a social networking and information section which will provide a wide array of benefits and features to the PWC community. IJSBA competitors, recreational members, affiliates, promoters, and aftermarket associates will be able to create profiles and pages accessible directly from the IJSBA website.

Taking cues from successful websites like Myspace, Facebook, and Yelp, the IJSBA is creating a format that streamline the information that PWC enthusiasts are looking for.
Competitor member profile pages will allow competitors to post pictures, video clips, personal information, comments sections, and links to the IJSBA pages of the competitor’s friends, sponsors, and mechanics. Competitors will also be able to link to their own Myspace and Facebook pages.

Competitors will even be able to sign up for bonus features like placing their own banners on the page. Competitors will be able to list their make/model of PWC, featured performance parts, race number, and win statistics. The site search engine will allow persons to search for members by using any of these methods as the search criteria as well as by geographic region (domestic and international).

Recreational member profile pages will have all of the features of competitor pages except for the win statistics and race number posting features.

Aftermarket Associate pages will allow these members to post pictures, video clips, tech tips, and advertisements of products and services. Aftermarket Associate Members will also be able to have a public ranking and feedback system where only registered competitor and recreational members can provide publicly viewable comments regarding the Aftermarket Associate Members’ products, services, and business.

Aftermarket Associates will be able to link their IJSBA profile page to their own websites. Also, Aftermarket Associates who have banners on the IJSBA and the Profile pages will be able to sign up for a reporting service which will provide tracking data of which IJSBA Competition members are linking the public to the Aftermarket Associate’s websites.

This service will easily provide for reward programs for those competitors who are able to show real attention to their sponsors. Noto' che a fare assistenza nel circuito c'era una moto d'acqua con una speciale barella fissata posteriormente. Si reco' subito li' a chiedere informazioni riguardo questo speciale mezzo di soccorso a Shawn Alladio (http://www.shawnalladio.com/) istruttrice e fondatrice del K38, una societa' di salvataggio che da anni opera negli USA.
Shawn gli spiego' che questo sistema era usato con successo anche in situazioni di pericolo estremo, sia in mareggiate, nei fiumi in piena e nei laghi di tutti gli USA. Annigoni, gia' in possesso della licenza di pilota, venne allora informato che, visto il suo interesse in questo campo, avrebbe potuto prendere parte ad un corso di salvataggio che da li' a poco si sarebbe tenuto ad Half Moon Bay (California). Qui pote' constatare l'efficienza di questo mezzo di soccorso (Rescue Boat: moto d'acqua con barella) con onde di diversi metri!

Tornato in Italia entusiasta, si rese conto della necessita' di introdurre questo sistema anche in Italia. Da quel momento infatti diede inizio alla promozione della "moto d'acqua da salvamento" presentandola, con grande successo, in diverse Fiere e saloni nautici (Rimini, Carrara, Genova) con l'appoggio della Federazione Italiana Motonautica. Ad Aprile 2000, prese parte ad un Summit mondiale del salvataggio in acqua svoltosi a Las Vegas, dove l'istruttrice e ormai amica Shawn Alladio, lo istrui' anche in fiume e in lago, avviandolo alla qualifica di Istruttore. Dopo diversi stage formativi, dal 2004 Fabio Annigoni e' istruttore della K38 USA e dal 2006 autorizzato come formatore per istruttori e operatori per la K38 International.

L'aquabike da salvamento a volte, fa apparire mezzi di soccorso quali gommoni, lancette o pattini, obsoleti ed inadeguati nei confronti di una natura sempre piu' violenta e difficilmente controllabile. Un gommone o una lancetta, poco possono nei confronti di correnti forti o onde di diversi metri, che impossibilitano gli stessi ad un uscita e un rientro in sicurezza. Dal canto suo l'elicottero, utilizzato per i recuperi piu' estremi, non sempre e' disponibile, e quando lo e', rimane comunque un sistema di salvataggio che implica difficolta' operative e ingenti costi. Naturalmente elemento essenziale per l'utilizzo delle aquabike nel salvamento e' la formazione specifica degli operatori, che si troveranno a condurre un mezzo totalmente differente dalla normale moto d'acqua, rendendo inadeguata a questo scopo particolare la normale patente nautica fino ad ora richiesta di legge.
Bisogna paragonare i mezzi di soccorso ad una cassetta degli attrezzi. Ogni attrezzo ha la sua funzione specifica: questo deve essere anche per i mezzi di salvataggio. Maggiore e' la scelta degli attrezzi, piu' mirata sara' la soluzione al problema. La moto d'acqua non e' la soluzione per tutto, ma e' sicuramente un tassello di rilievo nel mosaico del salvamento.

After riding PWCs in the ocean for the last 13 years, I experienced yet another first this past Sunday. The group made a Long Beach to Catalina and back offshore training ride and we had about 10 Racers, including Shawn Alladio.

I'll save you the detail, the long story short is that we had a great pace out, a great pace on the return leg from Avalon only for me to experience a mechanical about 14 miles from Long Beach. Shawn Alladio, the consumate professional who is always willing to assist, quickly jumped in and offered to give me a tow from her reliable Kawasaki 12F. I agreed, we linked up and away we went at the speed of 12 knots. We talked about various topics then at about ten minutes into the tow I noticed Shawn veering off course and found myself wondered what she was doing.

She appeared focused, given that it was Shawn I didn't question and just let her do her thing. I must acknowledge that I wondered why she was going so far off course towing the thousand pound ULTRA250X craft, but she appeared to be determined and therefore I thought, so be it, let her do her thing.

Off in the distance I saw some trash drifting in the ocean with Shawn clearly focused on getting it out of the water. "Is she going this far out of the way to pick up drifting trash" I thought. Sure enough, she went over, picked it out of the water and placed it safely in the tray.

"I hate trash in the water' said Shawn.

This process happened three more times during the long tow back. I must acknowledge that I always pick up anything I drop in the water, however I have never altered my course while I'm over 10 miles off shore to go pick up a piece of plastic.

This was a first and resulted in a shift of my paradigm, one of many things Shawn Alladio does well. Shawn is the real deal, she gives a sh-- and her actions (her actions) demonstrate. Some people talk smack and then fail to execute, others lead by example and action. Shawn is one of these people.

2009 World Finals Guest Book

I am in the process of preparing the 2009 World Finals Guest Book. I am looking for short stories, or photographs that you would like to share with the rest of the world.

This book will be available for signing at the Liquid Militia booth and also the night of the Parade of Nations that will be held on Thursday October 15th @ 7:30 pm.

Once again this special event will be held on the back patio of the London Bridge Resort Convention Center. Everyone is encouraged to attend and bring with them something special from their country to get to another person from a different country. What better way to share our country and culture with others?

IJSBA Announces Hiring of 2009 Summer Office Intern

IJSBA is pleased to announce that we have filled the summer office intern position. Beginning in May, the IJSBA lines and IJSBA clerical will be handled by Eva Cerreta. Eva is a Political Science major from the University of Connecticut who has focused on International Relations and is planning to attend law school after graduation. She will also be participating in our international affairs efforts.

IJSBA still has an intern position available for a Sports Marketing or Sports Management major. Applicants must have completed at least nine semester units of upper division courses in their respective majors and carry a grade point average above 3.0. This intern position includes travel stipend and per diem for participation at the 2009 IJSBA World Finals in October.

The IJSBA was founded February 24, 1982. IJSBA will celebrate or 28th annual World Finals this October.

While the company (USJSBA) that became the IJSBA existed prior to 1982, we became an official international organization on this date using the acronym we are still recognized by today.
IJSBA was called International Jet Ski Boating Association until 1993 when the S was changed to “Sports” to reflect its multi-brand make up.

Managing Directors Note- I had to dig out the seal today and use it on an official document and noticed the founding day was today.

The seal hadn’t been used in years and I thought it was pretty coincidental that it was used on today, of all days.

2009 IJSBA World Finals 3rd Annual Parade of Nations

The IJSBA is proud to announce the 3rd Annual Parade of Nations - Once again Lake Havasu City in Arizona will be honoring all race participants for the 28th IJSBA Quakysense World Finals.

Everyone is invited to attend to honor and represent the flag from their respective country. The event will be held Thursday, October 15th 7:30 PM at the London Bridge Resort and Convention Center. This is free to everyone attending the IJSBA World Finals and there will be an open cash bar for refreshments if desired.

This year I would like to invite participants and friends to bring something special from their country and gift it to an individual from another nation. This item could be a sticker, t-shirt, hat or even a small nation flag.

Once again there will be our annual guest book, with pictures from last year’s event, that you are encouraged sign with your personal comments. 2009 APBA MARK HAHN MEMORIAL HAVASU 300

This race is an APBA Sanctioned event and as such, ALL riders MUST be APBA Racing Members and you will need to enter the class that your APBA card shows VERY INPORTANT.If your card says PRO than you must run the Pro/Am class. If you are not now but want to become an APBA Racing Member, please call Patrick Mell at (586) 773-9700 or go online at www.apbaracing.com to sign up.

The Mark Hahn Memorial Havasu 300 Team Race is a stand-alone event to honor our fallen friend Mark Hahn. It is not part of the annual points races and therefore there will be Six (6) classes only, as listed on the entry form.

Get your team set and your entry in early to avoid the $25.00 late fee if your paid entry is not received by DSM one (1) week prior to the race. No entries will be accepted on race day. DSM will accept VISA, MASTERCARD or a check for the entry fee to make payment very easy. If anyone has a problem with this entry system or wants to make special arrangements, please contact Jim Russell at DSM immediately at (928) 764-2210, Extension 615 in an effort to limit the confusion on race day and insure that the race gets started exactly on time. All entrants MUST have eight inch (8") black number(s) on a white background to be scored. Numbers will NOT be available at the race site on race day, nor may you enter on race day.

Awards will be for First through Tenth in the Overall order and First through Third in each Class. The awards are really special for this event,

The AWARDS will be at Aquatic Center doors will open at 6.30 same as last years event awards starting at 7.30 pm. NO ONE WILL GET IN WITHOUT A DINNER BAND.

Body Beach Toy Drive

Lake Havasu City, Arizona is a wonderful place to hang your hat and call it home. With mild temperatures in the winter, water sports are never too far out of our minds.

Even though the city is considered a tourist destination, we must never forget the permanent residents, who do their best and work hard during these difficult economic times around the holidays.

Riders usually gather this time a year for a Christmas ride. This time Lake Havasu’s new residents, Chris and Rachel MacClugage thought it would be nice to give back to the City, and suggested a toy drive for the needy children in the city.

December 20th dozens of PWC racers and enthusiasts gathered at Body Beach in Lake Havasu City bearing some 200 Christmas gifts and cash for Lake Havasu City’s Inter-Agency Council’s adopt a family Christmas program. Toys came from all directions, Northern California, Southern California, Nevada, Arizona, and even Alberta Canada.

Jet Trim and Walt’s Motorsports also attended, bringing with them numerous toys for the boys and girls.

Interagency Council offers a wide variety of services to the community. Not only does it have a food bank, but it also supports various programs such as; Big Brothers & Big Sisters, Counseling for victims of domestic violence and Healthy Families of Arizona. Rick Miers, Executive Director, was on hand to accept the gifts and was overwhelmed with the out pouring of support from the PWC Community, as this year, Interagency is helping 250 families this holiday season.

“We always try to gather around Christmas time to ride when Chris suggested we make it a charity ride this year. It made sense,” said organizer Chris Hagest. “We all love Lake Havasu City, and Body Beach is the reason we’re here so what better place to gather and help Havasu’s kids?”

Even though the water temperature was around 40 degrees, Kurt Samuels and Bob Hyde, both of Lake Havasu City, decided to take advantage of the event and get some extra laps in to prepare for the 2009 racing season. Bryn Mallard of Edmonton, Alberta decided to show up the boys by riding only in a pair of shorts, life vest and tour coat to tear it up on the practice course on an X-2 proudly provided by Jon Lee of Las Vegas.

Nedra, our #1 fan, made sure that everyone in attendance stayed warm by serving a pot of bean soup to all that attended.

IJSBA Announces 2009 World Finals Dates

2009 IJSBA World Finals, October 10-18 Crazy Horse Campgrounds, Lake Havasu City, AZ

The IJSBA is pleased to announce the dates for the 2009 IJSBA World Finals. The World Finals will be held from October 10 through October 18, 2009 at Crazy Horse Campgrounds in Lake Havasu City. This year will mark the 28th installment of the largest PWC in the world.

While there are some details that must be worked out with the city, the IJSBA and Crazy Horse Campground are committed to preserve this event in Lake Havasu. Crazy Horse maintains an excellent location that has an established infrastructure which allows the IJSBA to put on the most efficient and cost effective event in the Lake Havasu City area.

Lake Havasu City restaurants, hotels, and other businesses have done so much to welcome us and so many of you have established great working relationships with these entities. Everything will be done to maintain this arrangement.

We realize that advance planning is necessary and we wanted to let you know, as early as possible, that you can safely make flight and travel plans to the Havasu/Mohave County area and know that they are secure. We can guarantee that the event will be held in this area on these dates.Please stay tuned to the IJSBA for more information about the 2009 World Finals as we will be releasing information rapidly over the next couple of weeks.
